Magic Lantern Donates to Community  "Lights of Love" Tree at Community Medical Center has a special meaning.  It represents a donation to the hospital by an individual or a group in honor of someone who is loved or appreciated. The tree will be decorated thru the month of February and can be seen at 1000 West Harlem. 

 

MONMOUTH--December 23--LANTERN GAMES PUBLISHES FIRST TITLE

Lantern Games, the publishing arm of Magic Lantern, Inc. and Lantern Learning, LLC has released its inaugural title: Checkers Ultimate. The exciting 3D checkers game is available through the Lantern Games web site (www.lanterngames.com). Players can test their skills against 10 levels of computer opponents or play head-to-head on line.

Lantern Games will also be publishing Frontrunner, a fast-paced presidential election game (developed by Lantern Learning) in early 2004.

The game, published by eGames, is a 3D suite of 3 games, including Air Hockey, Foosball and Shuffleboard. All games feature real-time 3D, true physics and multiplayer Internet play. The game retails for $9.99, and is rated E by the ESRB.

Magic Lantern's latest game, eGames 3D Chess, hits stores and online e-tailers nationwide this week. The game, published by eGames, is a casual and accessible take on the chess genre. The game features 5 includes chess sets (with more available on-line for download), 11 levels of computer opponents and on-line play. The product also features a bonus 3D checkers game, also  developed by Magic Lantern. The game retails for $9.99, and is rated E by the ESRB.


CYBERSPACE--September 5, 2003--EDWARD THE FIRST SITE GOES LIVE

Magic Lantern's team writer and researcher, Peter Riis, has just completed a major on-line research project: The Life and Times of Edward the First. The on-line web-book chronicles the period of history in which Edward the Longshanks ruled England and William Wallace was the people's hero. The late 1200s was a turbulent time of primitive warfare and even more primitive politics. Swing by the site to learn about the history, the battles and the castle architecture of the time!


MONMOUTH, IL--August 18, 2003--DAWN MAYE JOINS MAGIC LANTERN TEAM

Magic Lantern, Inc. announced today that it has hired Dawn Maye as the Publishing Director.  Maye will oversee the publishing and production of software titles for both Magic Lantern, Inc. and Lantern Learning, LLC.

“Dawn brings experience and energy to this position, which is essential, since publishing our own titles is a new direction for us,” explained Paul Schuytema, President of Magic Lantern and Managing Partner of Lantern Learning.  “We’re all very excited to move into the realm of self-publishing from some of our titles, and Dawn has our full confidence as she leads the charge into a new market arena.”

Dawn received her Masters Degree from Western Illinois University in Instructional Technology and Telecommunications in 2002.  Before taking this position with Magic Lantern, she developed and managed several programs for the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs including the Rural Information Technology Planning Project and the Rural Technology AmeriCorps program.  Maye herself served as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member in Missouri for one year and a VISTA Leader in Alaska for two years working at the grassroots level designing and implementing both environmental and literacy programs.  Her interests include organic and vegetarian foods, her son Sam, and being a member of the American Tribal Style dance troupe—Al Banat Casablanca. 

Maye will be responsible for taking a software project from “beta” (a point in development when all features are implemented) through the testing stage and into the marketplace (If community members are interested in participating in focus group testing, please contact ). She will oversee manual design, package design, marketing and sales.

The first projects for Maye include a checkers game under development at Magic Lantern and a presidential election game currently under development for Lantern Learning. Anticipated release dates for these titles will be between Q4 2003 to Q1 2004. All Lantern Learning games will be distributed via direct sales and relationships with key venders in the educational software industry. Magic Lantern games will be published via a web-based shareware business model—so be sure to check our website for future information about downloading our games online.

eGames 3D Chess, developed by Magic Lantern, went gold today. The 3D chess game will be available in stores everywhere in early September.
